Job Title: Fertilizer Facility Manager

Responsibilities:

  • To come to work with a positive, professional approach and attitude.
  • To be dependable for all scheduled shifts.
  • To be responsible for the planning and co-ordination of all operational requirements of the facility with focus on customer service and sales. This requires strategic inventory management to meet all customer service requirements to including purchasing, receiving, blending, and shipping of dry and liquid fertilizer from the plant or direct to farm.
  • To oversee and plan appropriate staff recruitment, training, and scheduling to maximize plant efficiency and customer service levels at all times, especially through peak seasons and required after hour service.
  • Collaborate with the Agronomy Sales Team and Administrative staff to ensure all customer fertility plans are executed within budget guidelines and company credit policy to optimize fertilizer volumes, logistics, and customer opportunities
  • Facilitate the sale of all products & services offered by the Agro Centre by referring customers and sales leads to appropriate sales personnel  including follow up
  • Work with Logistics Manager to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key transportation companies to meet logistical and customer service requirements. Continually monitor transportation options for efficiencies.
  • To supervise, lead, and direct the daily activities of in scope staff to maximize plant efficiency, customer service, safe work practices, and administration of company policies and union contract.
  • To provide information, assistance and service to customers in a manner which will promote the sale of merchandise. This will require being in constant contact with the logistics and crop input managers and in collaboration with satellite sites to monitor deliveries of fertilizer to ensure all customer service expectations are met or exceeded.
  • To be responsible for regulatory compliance including licenses, permits. health & safety, training,  audit requirements, emergency response and proactive maintenance to ensure daily operations are conducted safely and efficiently
  • To adjust minor complaints in accordance with general sales policy and refer more serious complaints to the appropriate personnel.
  • To be responsible for processing of invoices, claims, and inventory reports as required.
  • To manage sales, margins, and expenses as per budget
  • Contribute to the development of the site’s yearly capital and maintenance requirements, budget, and implement Performance Management for site staff as per Saskatoon co-op policy and procedure
  • To be responsible for security in the yard area.
  • To be responsible for regular plant inspections and all repairs and maintenance of the fertilizer blending facilities, site buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Assist in the developing strategic marketing initiatives in the area
  • To be familiar with and adhere to Saskatoon Co-op policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of physical plant management and fertilizer handling
  • Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills with a demonstrated collaborative approach when working with staff, colleagues, farmers and business partners
  • Must be strongly service-oriented, motivated, and capable of serving and assisting customers in a positive, courteous and efficient manner
  • Ability to identify opportunities and prospects and build customer relationships and close sales
  • Experience in an agricultural service business environment
  • Must possess minimum of 2 years of administrative experience.
  • Must possess a farm background or Ag industry experience with knowledge of crop inputs and agronomy
  • Must be prepared to increase product knowledge and improve selling techniques through special courses, product clinics, seminars and training sessions.
  • Must be a self-starter, results oriented with strong leadership and time management skills.
  • Must have demonstrated effective problem solving techniques and decision making skills.
  • Must possess the ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to lead supervise and coordinate others effectively.
  • Must hold a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability in safety thoughts and actions
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
